Will a transparent background stay transparent?
Yes, transparent pixels in a still WebP image are preserved in the PNG output. Conversion does not remove an existing solid background.
Why is the PNG larger than the WebP?
The formats use different compression methods. PNG can be much larger, especially for photographs. Converting an animated WebP produces a still image, not an animation.
