Compress a Photo to 100KB or 200KB Without Uploading It

Updated October 7, 2026

Written and maintained by GadgetPickLab

To fit a photo under a 100KB upload limit, set 100KB as the maximum size, choose a suitable output format and review the result. Allow resizing only if the destination accepts smaller dimensions. GadgetPickLab processes the image in your browser and reports whether the target was reached.

Inputs and outputs

InputJPG, PNG or WebP images.
Targets100KB, 200KB, 500KB, 1MB or a custom maximum.
Units1KB = 1,000 bytes; 1MB = 1,000,000 bytes.

PrivacyNo account or upload to a processing server.

Match the upload form, not just the file size

Read the required file type, pixel dimensions and maximum bytes before compressing. A small file can still be rejected if its dimensions or format are wrong. Use JPG for a photo when transparency is unnecessary; choose a supported transparent format when you need transparent pixels.

Choose the target and check the actual result

  1. Open the image compressor and choose the image.
  2. Set a 100KB or 200KB maximum, or enter the limit from the destination form.
  3. Keep the resolution initially. Permit resizing if a smaller image is acceptable and the target cannot be reached.
  4. Process the image and check the actual bytes and target status. Compare faces, text and edges in the preview.
  5. Download the image and check its dimensions and readability before submitting it. Unzip a batch first if the form requires individual images.

When an image cannot reach the target

A maximum is not a promise of an exact byte count. Dense detail, transparency and dimensions affect the smallest useful file. PNG does not respond to quality settings like JPEG. Try an appropriate output format, explicitly permit smaller dimensions, or choose a larger limit when the destination allows it.

Keep your original: conversion or compression cannot restore detail already missing from the input.

Questions before you export

Does 100KB mean exactly 100,000 bytes?

No. It is an upper limit. A smaller result satisfies the size target if its other properties meet your needs.

Will the tool always keep the original resolution?

You can choose to keep it. If the selected settings cannot meet the target, review the status rather than assuming the image was resized.

Do I need to upload the photo or create an account?

No. Processing runs in your browser without a processing-server upload or an account.
