WebP to PNG
Turn a WebP image into a transparent-friendly PNG.
Choose an image → Adjust → Save
How to use it
- Select a .webp file. For an animation, check whether a still frame is sufficient before proceeding.
- Check the preview, including transparent corners and small text, then process the PNG.
- Open the saved PNG in the target application and compare its dimensions and actual file size.
Before you start
PNG preserves transparency. The output may be larger than the original WebP file.
Common questions
Will a transparent background stay transparent?
Yes, transparent pixels in a still WebP image are preserved in the PNG output. Conversion does not remove an existing solid background.
Why is the PNG larger than the WebP?
The formats use different compression methods. PNG can be much larger, especially for photographs. Converting an animated WebP produces a still image, not an animation.
Follow the detailed guide
A practical workflow
Use PNG when an application does not accept a still WebP image or when you need a widely supported transparent format. Converting the format keeps the visible picture; it does not separate a subject from its background.
Why can PNG be much larger?
WebP and PNG encode pixels differently. PNG may be larger for photographs even at unchanged dimensions. Lossless PNG storage does not reverse detail already lost in a lossy WebP. Use the compressor if the destination also imposes a byte limit.
